My Sweetie surprised me with a spontaneous romantic weekend to one of my favorite places. It seemed appropriate that since I shot a sunrise earlier in this challenge that I should also shoot a sunset. This sunset was so vibrant and beautiful that this image doesn’t come near to doing it justice. The second image was taken a little earlier in the day. It was cold, foggy and dreary. The boats seemed perfectly content to stay tied up at the dock rather than venture out into a storm. Lucky for the boats, the storm did not materialize.January 7, 2015

“Masquerade! Paper faces on parade!”
I love getting to the studio early. It’s peaceful to walk about and go through a mental checklist of what my goal is and how am I going to achieve it. I was waiting for my model to arrive and started playing with this mask. It is very difficult to stage a mask for a photo. Certain angles left a creepy feeling image, a faceless entity staring back at you. Thankfully my model arrived and I could quickly abandon this subject!January 6, 2015

Family legend is that my grandfather made this lute that used to hang on his and then my parents living room wall. I don’t know if it’s true or not but I like to think so. My grandfather was a craftsman who worked with his hands all of his life. I can still recall the smell of wood shavings in his shop and hear him plunking on his guitar after dinner.January 5, 2015

“The best way to get something done is to begin.”
How many times have I grumbled about procrastinators? More times than I can recall, especially since it probably involved either my oldest or youngest child. I have long since declared that the procrastination gene was handed down via my husband and his side of the family. Of course I’m kidding and picking on my husband and his family, but they’ll understand. So it is with great shame that I admit that after a year and a half I have FINALLY moved my gear into my studio! Here is everything all neat, tidy and organized instead of crammed into an undersized tote behind the sofa.January 4, 2015

Today I took my faithful 24-105 lens off and replaced it first with my 50 mm and then with my 100 mm. One thing became blaringly clear rather quickly. I had become too comfortable with my zoom! Here is my Christmas Poinsettia, still alive and thriving (?) in my care and proving to be a willing photo subject.January 3, 2015

I do not consider myself to be a superstitious person, although there are things that I believe in that may or may not conform to “main stream”. Whether it is divine intervention, cosmic influence, Karma or fate, I do find that I look for “signs” in my life, signs that I am on the right path and where I need to be. I was preparing some things to take to the studio when I happened to notice this unexpected smiley face made by a cardboard packing piece and a broken stool that happened to be discarded in just the perfect manner. I take my signs any way I can find them.January 2, 2015

Day two. I was still wondering what had made me decide to participate in this challenge. I was feeling uninspired. I had to stop trying to think outside the box looking for inspiration in some place exotic and unique. Instead I started to think literally inside the box or rather my home. This is my bathroom window. My window faces the south and during the fall and winter there is such a beautiful quality to the late afternoon light that floods through. I did take some creative license here, changing the white balance and adding a creative touch here or there for some dynamic energy… because it is just a bathroom window after all.Happy New Year

I must be nuts. I have no idea what possessed me to decide to participate in a 365 Photo challenge; taking a photo a day for a year. No or little planning involved, just shoot. Day one of the 365 Photo challenge was spent chasing the sunrise. Family and friends know that I do not willingly get up at o’dark:thiry unless it’s for a VERY good cause. It was bitterly cold this morning! The trail was thick with fallen oak leaves that had frozen crisp in the night. Even if I wanted to be quiet there was no way possible. At least if anything was going to jump out of the darkness to eat me before I got to my destination, I would hear it. Not that that was any comfort. The reward was watching the sun peek over the mountains and seeing the cool morning blues give way to the warmer oranges and yellows. Definitely a good cause.
